This mobile phone from Motorola comes in a beautiful silver-and-burgundy design. However, the displays are not that impressive. Otherwise the phone is convenient and quite easy to use. It has an extendable antenna which comes with other Nextel handsets. It has a slick surface design that makes it attractive. The phone is compact and lightweight at 3.56 ounces.

The external display is quite small so you might want to check this out in case you have visual impairments. Small and rectangular, it displays the date, battery life, signal strength, numeric caller ID, and time. But reading text on the screen could prove to be difficult. Phone display is limited to 64,000 colors. The front display is small and does not make it a good viewfinder for the camera. There are two indicator lights for Bluetooth and new messages. The front display is almost invisible when unlit. The camera lens is located at the top of the phone but it does not have a flash or self-portrait mirror. On the right side of the phone is the usual volume rocker just like other Motorola phone and a push-to-talk (PTT) button

The internal display which is 1.75 inches supports 64,000 colors is rather small. The internal display suffers from the same shortcomings of the front display. Image quality is poor and is one area that seriously needs improvement. However, the font size and time for backlight can be changed according to your liking but other than that, there is nothing more that you can change. The menu interface is very responsive and can be changed either in icon or list view. Menu views must be scrolled through multiple pages.

Navigation and control is decent and basic. Key layout is spacious enough for texting or making calls. Navigation control is done via four-way toggle with the OK button in the center, two soft keys, menu control, shortcut for camera, and the Talk and End/power keys.

Keeping in touch with your friends is easy with the Motorola i776. The phone gives you the option of storing 600 contacts, each with seven phone numbers, e-mail address, IP address, and a Direct Connect number. You can also organize the contacts into groups and assign a polyphonic ringtone. Text and multimedia messaging are basic. Other standard features include vibrating mode, calendar, voice recorder, Bluetooth, voice dialing, call forwarding, speakerphone, notepad, and a call timer.

Shooting with the Motorola i776 camera is subpar. Options included for image capture includes photo quality in five different resolutions. Editing options such as quality settings, shutter sounds, and a self-timer are included but does not have a flash for use in low-light settings. The Motorola i776 also lacks a camcorder feature. Viewing videos on the phone was dismal, image capture also showed a lot of noise in the background. Overall, the phone comes as a disappointment when it comes to viewing images or videos.

The Motorola i776 offers a margin personalization with options for changing wallpapers, themes, and alert sounds. With the wireless Web browser, you can download more ringtones and other options. You can download JAVE (J2ME) applications, Alarm clock plus, calculator suite, and many more.

The i776 is a dual-band phone. Usage of this phone is limited only to a few countries. Call quality however is good enough. The reception of the phone is strong either you are inside or outside of a building. Static of electronic interferences were not noticed during tests. During call conversations, the voices were clear but soft. Voice calls could prove to be very difficult in noisy environments.

At the other end of the line, call voice quality was good. Background noises were not observed during the calls. Using the speakerphone is provided a bit of improvement. Talk time was rated at 4 hours and tests showed similar results.

The Motorola i776 comes in a clamshell form phone which is surprisingly attractive. The phone is easy to use and its push to talk (PTT) feature makes for great communication. The Group Connect function is a great way for businesses to communicate and coordinate activities for up to 20 people. Talkgroup feature allows instant large group communication for dispatch by getting the word out to up to 200 people instantaneously. For those in business who are looking for a good and solid communicating tool, the Motorola i776 is one of the most ideal in the market.
