The Samsung Propel SGH a767 is the latest in a series of QWERTY handsets available in the market today. What sets it apart it that it comes in a slim package unlike the bulky phones we see today. Combining great form and features, the Propel might prove to be one of the top contenders in the QWERTY niche today.

The Samsung Propels cones in a slider form. Push the front panel and it reveals a full QWERTY keyboard. The sliding mechanism is solid and has a great feel. Sliding the phone closes running applications. The front panel displays easy to navigate buttons for standard call functions. It is slightly wide in dimension. This accounts for a bigger screen and a spacely keyboard for its form.

Call quality was good and no significant noise or interference was noticed. Phone reception was great even at areas with poor provider signals. Battery life however was disappointing, total talk time was 5 hours. Contacts capacity is ample with great storage space. Providing more detailed information is done through different fields for contacts. Voice dialling is missing, a very important feature for making calls on the road. Speakers on the phone gave good voice quality and were great for hands free communication.

The phone is a solid messaging handset. This could be a great deal before moving to high end smartphones with a QWERTY interface. Text messaging was excellent and featured great recipient options. Sending text messages through SMS was robust as the phone come with the ability to send multiple messages with a group. It comes with standard support for some major email clients like Yahoo, AOL and MSN.

Multimedia experience was excellent with basic 3G capability. Music download was fast and video streaming experience was smooth. The phone also comes with a built in equalizer and excellent music track controls and playlist function. Access to phones and jacks is easy and clearly labeled. Bluetooth features enable quick music sharing and file transfers.

Access to the camera requires sliding the phone up as it is located at the back of the frontpanel. Capturing images is easy however as a dedicated camera key is located at the front panel. Picture quality was clear and the camera was capable of high resolution images. Image and picture quality was great both indoors and outdoors. The 1.3 Megapixel camera performed exceptionally well even when compared to higher end cameras.

Other multimedia features of the Propel include GPS, 50MB internal memory, Quad Bank support, Bluetooth and voice memos. Standard features included with the handsets are clock, calculator, speaker phone and tools for customizing.

Mobile texting has become a popular way of exchanging thoughts and communicating with friends. The introduction of QWERTY phones was a logical decision to address its growing popularity. The Propel a767 is Samsungs latest answer to changing trends in mobile communication. It is competitively priced and bundled with great features that come with Samsung handsets. This may prove to be attractive to younger and heavy texters who just are not loaded with cash.
