AT&T Samsung Eternity
Samsung Eternity Review
Samsung Eternity a867 Review
The Samsung Eternity is the latest in Samsung’s growing line of sexy and slim touchscreen phones. A quick glimpse reveals that the phone comes with a 3 Megapixel camera, good battery life and a solid list of multi-media and entertainment features. The Eternity is proving to be a good alternative because of its multi-media and entertainment features, sleek design and mid-range pricing.
The Eternity has the traditional Samsung look and feel which one can easily identify. The piano black cover supports a huge 3.2 inch screen which is sharp and clean. A bonus feature is the phones ability to display its contents vertically or horizontally with its accelerometer feature.
Samsung has definitely come on top with the touchscreens sensitivity and great feedback. The phone sports Samsung’s Touchwiz user interface. Button layout was simple with the 3 major buttons located at the front panel of the phone. The phone has full touchscreen capabilities which allow users to drag and pull items with the wave of a finger.
The Samsung Eternity comes in two keyboard layouts. It sports a QWERTY keyboard and its layout is slightly different in landscape and vertical mode. Texting and messaging was easy using the t9 mode, the phone has handwriting recognition features but takes time to get used to and a bit cumbersome.
The phone comes equipped with a Java-powered email system. With wide range capabilities and support for all major instant messaging clients. Get connected using your AIM, Yahoo, Gmail, AOL and hotmail accounts. Loading time was decent and moving through the applications was generally trouble-free.
Video streaming and music download is also supported. There was little or no buffering and download speeds for video was comparatively fast. There is room for improvement in video quality however as other Samsung phones showed better picture quality. Music playback was good with artist recognition through artist and album name display. Downloading music was quick and audio quality is impressive.
The phone comes with a 3 Megapixel camera and after a round of pictures quality was short of our expectations. We definitely expected clearer and sharper pictures but the 3 Megapixel camera was not really cut-out for the job. The phone also supports mpeg4 format for video recording. Audio quality from the videos was also one area needing improvement. Videos were pixilated and motion capture was blurry. Overall impression was that the phone has definitely a drawback when it comes to image capture and quality.
A nice addition to the phone is its GPS feature. The GPS is carrier dependent but the one we tried with AT&T was glitch free. This feature could also be a great addition to your car for navigation but battery life is shortened so a car connection for phone support is required.
Voice quality was superb even on busy New York streets. Noise reduction is a concern however as traffic and conversations in the background posed concerns. Another strong point is its better than average battery life. This is quite a good and welcome addition for heavy callers.
The phone certainly comes out as a fun phone. With multi-media features and a small profile, it is easy to carry and its sleek and elegant design demands a second look. It has its shortcomings however, the lack of a Wifi option certainly drops the phone a few notches. The phone is certainly not a business phone nor does it pretend to be one. It is competitively priced and comes out cheaper than the iPhone. The Samsung Eternity a867 is a solid phone, the sleek styling and competitive price could definitely give a serious buyer more than a second look.
