For users looking for a good and solid messaging phone the Sanyo SCP 2700 is a phone you should certainly look into. The phone however does not come with a load of other features. Multimedia experience is limited and the phone does not come with 3G support. It does come solidly with Bluetooth, email messaging and a full QWERTY keyboard for making quick work of all messaging needs.

Phone structure is similar to a Blackberry but its likeness ends with its looks. It is an unpretentious phone coming in at 3.4 ounces. It has an attractive glossy finish and a checked design at the back panel for added twist. User problems especially with the phones shiny surface like leaving fingerprints were quite annoying.

The Sanyo SCP 2700’s display measures 2.2 inches and supports 65,536 colors. Image quality is below average and if you’re an avid picture and image fan this could certainly be disappointing. Text and fonts were displayed clearly and viewing messages was easy on the eyes. Other settings for display includes backlight time, font size and sleep timer options.

Navigation is easy and going through the phones menus was fairly quick. Shortcuts are available for text messaging, back key, send and the end/power key. Navigation could even be made simpler with the phones shortcut option for launching frequently used applications. The middle or confirmation key also serves as a shortcut for the main menu. Key are raised and spaced for better layout and easier access.

The Sanyo SCP 2700 was designed for heave text messaging and the phones QWERTY keyboard fully supports this function. Key input is easy and gives good feedback with its tactile feature. A bubble texture gives unique feedback and an emoticon option for a more personal touch. Speakerphone could be activated by a key located just below the “ENTER” key. Dialing out numbers is easy with keys coming in a green shade for better contrast and identification.

Located at the left side of the phone are the power jack, camera key and volume control. Support for the widely popular headsets is limited as a 2.5 mm port comes standard with the phone. Camera and speakers are located at the back panel.

The Sanyo SCP 2700 does not come loaded with a lot of features but comes solidly with message options. Phonebook stores 600 contacts. Contact detail includes 6 phone numbers, three email addresses and memo. Keep in touch with your friend and identify callers more quickly with the option of assigning photos for caller ID. Personalize further your contacts by giving them individualized ringtones for incoming calls or messages, picture mails and voice messages. Basic messaging and call features include vibrate mode, SMS and MMS, voice memo recorder and speakerphone. Advance messaging features are included such as email support for AOL, Hotmail, Yahoo and Gmail clients. Online messaging also comes via Yahoo messenger, AIM and Windows Live.

Multimedia is certainly its weak suit, but what it lacks in this area the phone makes up in its messaging capabilities. User interface is threaded similar to higher-end phones. This provides for easier viewing making sending messages seamless. Interface for messaging is very responsive. You can navigate through it easily and you are given the option to choose how many messages you can view in your inbox. E-mails and other text messages are stored in different inboxes. The only annoying part is you cannot get other incoming mail folders when you are accessing the primary inbox.

The camera is a 1.3 megapixel camera giving you the option to capture photographs in three different resolutions and three quality settings. You can adjust the brightness, white balance, sharpness, and contrast. Other camera options include a self-timer, 12x digital zoom, picture modes, multiple shot, fun frames, color tones, and shutter sounds but there is no flash LED. Image quality of the captured images however is not that good. Pictures look a bit blurred and dull. Camcorder function also does not come with the phone.

The screensavers can be customized along with the ring and alert tones. There are a few games installed but most are demo versions so you will have to buy the full version for extended play. The Samsung SCP 2700 comes with options for buying more graphics, ringtones, games, and application via the Web.

The Sanyo SCP 2700 is a dual-mode phone. In terms of call quality, callers can hear you loud and clear with minimal background noise, and static. The speakerphone however is not that impressive because it sounds more of like a tin can but you can still understand each other. Talk time is rated at 4 hours before charging. If you’re ready to trade some multimedia features for heavy texting needs, the Sanyo SCP 2700 is a solid messaging phone that performs above expectations.
