Motorola Renew W233

Another environmentally friendly phone is out in the market and this one is from Motorola. The Motorola Renew W233 comes to the green world by using recycled materials for phone build and packaging. It also uses lesser energy, making long talk times possible.

The Motorola Renew W233 has a candy bar design and is highlighted by 3 color tones. The top and the keypads are cream-white in color, sides and navigation arrays comes in a shade of lime green, and black on the phone??™s back panel. Phone is lightweight and slim which is perfect for many pockets. It feels solid when held although the case is entirely plastic.

The Motorola Renews display is small and measures a mere 1.4 inches. Images are rendered with low resolutions. It only supports 65,000 colors so don??™t expect to see sharp graphics. However, text messages can be easily read with the sharp fonts. Phone menu and interface can be changed from icon-based to list type. User interface is very simple and organized.

The navigation array has a four-way circular toggle that can be set to four user-defined functions. In the middle of the four-way toggle is a confirmation key. There are also two soft keys for the music player and browser, the Talk, and End/Power key. The toggles are not flushed and the navigation array is not cramped which is very nice.

The keypad is very spacious and is raised above the surface. The buttons are separated from each other but spacing is not adequate. The buttons have a bright backlight so you will not have any problems when accessing the phone in dark environments.

On the right spine of the phone, you will see a mini USB/charger port while on the left spine is a 2.5 mm headset jack. You will not find a volume rocker anywhere on this phone so you will have to take it off from your ear during a call to adjust the volume level through the toggles on the navigation array. Accessing the microSD could be inconvenient; the memory card is located behind the phones memory.

Phone book has a capacity of storing 500 contacts. Each contact can have six phone numbers and email address. You can assign a contact to a caller group and a polyphonic ringtone for easy caller recognition. Other basic features include: vibrate mode, text and MMS, speakerphone, calculator, alarm clock, USB syncing, and stopwatch. There is no Bluetooth or any other trendy features on the phone.

For multimedia, the music player is very basic and simple. It does not even offer quality settings for sound or music but does not sound that bad either.

The screensaver, wallpaper, colors and greetings can be changed and you can download more options and ringtones through the WAP 2.0 Web browser. Demo games are installed and you can download more if you want.

The Motorola W233 is a dual band phone. The CrystalTalk feature from Motorola comes standard with the phone making call quality very impressive. Surrounding noises are blocked so you will be able to understand the caller even in noisy environments. On the other end of the line, the sound is also great without static or interference. The speakerphone is not that good but it is not that bad either. You can have a talk time up to 9 hours and a standby time of less than 3 weeks before charging the battery.

Overall, if you want just a basic phone but at the same time help the environment, then the Motorola Renew is a good phone to buy. There are not that much advance features available and the display has a low resolution but it is just alright for a phone of this caliber.
