Sprint LG Rumor Black
LG Rumor Black Review
The LG Rumor comes
in a candy-bar design but a bit stubby. It comes in three different
colors: Black, White, and Green. It weighs about 4 ounces and
it feels a little bulky on the pocket. However, behind the bulk
and the weight is the slide out full QWERTY keyboard. Sliding
the phone to its side reveals a full QWERTY keyboard and phone display
automatically adjusts to its landscape mode. The slider has a sturdy
feel to it clicks into place when opened. The overall effect is simply
attractive. It has nice curved edges and clean lines.
The Rumor's display
measures 2 inches with 176x220 for pixel resolution. Image quality and
videos displayed were subpar and LG could have made the phone better
with improving its display. Phone display options include backlight
timing, brightness with contrast settings and font size toggling. The
volume rocker and camera control is located at the phones left. Headset
jack and microSD slot is conveniently located at the right and camera
sits at the back panel.
Navigation control
includes two soft keys, middle confirmation keys and five-way toggle.
Quick access for applications could be done through a five-way navigation
key. Shortcuts could be provided for frequently used applications such
as messaging, music player, My Content Folder and calendar. Other controls
such as speakerphone key, Back key, Talk and Power key are located at
the right of the Navigation toggle. The LG Rumor’s keypad is a huge
improvement from the earlier F9200 model. Key layout is well spaced
and raised. Keys are larger and easy to tap even for those with more
than average sized fingers. For heavy messaging the QWERTY keyboard
makes quick work for sending messages.
Phonebook capacity
stores 500 contacts. Contact details for each includes five phone numbers,
email address, Web Address and memo. Phonebook options include grouping
contacts, providing photo for caller ID and assigning polyphonic ringtones.
Basic features include MMS and SMS messaging, calculator, alarm clock,
notepad, calculator, stop watch and voice recorder.
Advance features of the LG Rumor include wireless Web Browsing, email support and instant messaging applications for AOL, Windows Live and Yahoo. Access to social networking sites like Facebook, LiveJournal, Xanga and Vox is so provided. Phone supports GPS navigation but overall surfing experience is below average because of huge loading times.
Multimedia features and applications are basic. The LG Rumor displays the usual lackluster interface. Layout is simple and music tracks are easily controlled for shuffling or repeated listening. Access and transfer of your favorite music tracks are through the microSD card.
The LG Rumor’s shooter
comes at 1.3 megapixels. Options for image capture include three picture
resolutions, three quality settings and four color tones. The Rumor’s
camera has a self-timer and shutter sound controls. Camera’s limited
capacity is evident in its low quality images. Photos were dull and
out of focus. The shooter also acts as a camcorder and toggling video
capture is similar to image setting controls. Video however also suffers
from the camera’s low resolution.
Customizing and personalization
could be done with wallpapers, screen savers and ringtones. A wide variety
of games is available for download to add to its entertainment features.
Before purchasing the
LG Rumor it is important to check if your local provider supports it.
The LG Rumor is a dual band phone and does not work will all mobile
providers. Call quality was good and voices at the other end were clear
and crisp. Occasional static and noises were heard but did not affect
overall call experience. Battery life was rated at 4 hours and test
showed similar results.
The LG rumor is an
inexpensive phone with solid features. It is a good messaging phone
with its QWERTY keyboard making quick work for heavy texting or messaging
needs. It does however suffer from huge download times which affects
web browsing and could prove to be disappointment for heavy online users.
But overall the phone does a good job for messaging and texting and
could prove to be popular for phones in this market.
