HTC has certainly come out on its own with its numerous cell phones in the market today. Competitively priced and offering above average performance, the HTC touch is one smartphone that is not easily outdone. Touchscreen seems to be the order of the day and HTC has introduced the touch to compete with similar smartphones out in the market today.

The HTC Touch casts a small shadow compared to much larger smartphones. Smooth curves and clean lines define phone design. The phone is quite attractive and comes slim and classy. Users will find the phone pocket friendly and can fit comfortably on the owner’s palm. Phone is constructed to be compact and does not give that awkward bulky handling.

A large 2.8 inch display dominates the landscape of the HTC Touch. Screen resolution comes at 65k colors and a 240 x 320 pixel resolution. The HTC Touch comes with a stylus pen but users could do away with this cumbersome control as the phone’s touchscreen can be easily navigated with their fingers. Viewing messages could be a problem under glazed conditions. This is however quickly fixed by adjusting brightness settings on the phone.

The HTC Touch comes with a fully functional touchscreen. Navigation can be easily done by a simple tap or wave of a finger. Touchscreen was very responsive and viewing web sites by scrolling your fingers on the screen was smooth. Tapping the screen to run an application was accurate and spacing between keys during messaging was adequate.

Another special feature is the “Today Screen.” This application allows you to display up to 9 frequently accessed applications. This is a great way of customizing and personalizing your phone plus it brings better convenience. One drawback with the phone however is the loss of finger friendly controls when phone is viewed horizontally.

The HTC Touch with a Windows Mobile 6 interface. This OS is a popular offer for smartphone manufactures because of the Windows or PC experience they offer. User interface was improved with providing special shortcuts and controls for basic actions and features. The status bar that sits on top of the screen is loaded with icons. Icons are provided for shortcuts such as battery information, emails, speakers and status.

Key layout is average and spacing between keys was appropriate for average sized fingers. Users with more than average fingers will find however that typing on the phone could take time getting used to. Flipping the phone to its side however disables its finger based menu system and swipe interface.

The HTC Touch is a fairly easy to use smartphone. It is a tri-band EDGE/GSM phone which supports some European networks working at 900/1800 MHZ. phone however does not support all major mobile providers in the US. Call quality on the HTC Touch is good and signal strength average. Phone battery’s life was above average. Continuous phone usage and calls gave 7 hours before recharging.

Making calls with the Touch was easy with the large number keys on the phones display. Voice dialing features also made hands-free communication while driving.

The Windows Mobile 6 OS make quick work of all MMS and SMS messaging needs. Push mail is also available and support for major email providers with toggling functions for POP/IMAP configurations. Switching from email to SMS/MMS messages was easy with the inbox feature. Windows Live and hotmail are standard for the Windows Mobile system which is a huge plus for enhanced connectivity.

For heavy online users the HTC Touch can give you serious online time with its WiFi connectivity option. It also comes with EDGE which is a good backup for web surfing. Synchronizing documents and multimedia between your phone and PC is a breeze with the USB cable. Bluetooth connectivity is also great in swapping files between similarly equipped phones or PC’s.

The HTC Touch is a sleek and smart handset that comes competitively priced. The Touch is also loaded with features that could put similar high priced smartphones a run for their money. The best thing about the HTC Touch is its WiFi capability, this feature is one which could only be found on larger more expensive handsets. For people looking for serious online time without sacrificing their business phone needs, the HTC touch is one in our short list of favorites.
