Rumor about this RIM’s first clamshell handset has hit blogosphere since April 2008. At that time, it was BGR who was lucky to get the leaked images of this quad-band smartphone. And finally, RIM has just announced this Pearl 8220 series today.
When we talked about clamshell smartphone, first thing that will jump into our mind is about both of the the display screens, whether external or internal one. For such this important issue, RIM is claiming to give its users with two high-resolution, light-sensing color displays for both side of the handset. The internal screen of Kickstart will let users preview their incoming emails, text messages and phone calls without opening the handset. On the other side, the external display screen allow users to view all bunch of stuffs in a wonderful 240 x 320 internal LCD.
Blackberry Kickstart Features
Unfortunately, RIM is not giving us a clue on its press release whether it will also provide a special button for Kickstart users to enjoy music directly without opening this handset. Anyway, I just bet that RIM doesn’t. Regardless any rumors on its features, it seems that RIM doesn’t inject this one with such cool or sophisticated one. Specifications like 2MP camera, MP3 and video player, DataViz Documents to Go, and SureType QWERTY keyboard are all common features in this era, especially for a Blackberry smartphone.
Price and availability
Blackberry Kickstart will be available from wireless carriers around the world this fall (September) – as a locked cellphone. There are no information about the price tag yet. However, for US market, Crackberry had reported that T-Mobile was rumored to sell this flip phone Blackberry starting at $49,99 with 2 years contract.
