Good news for all Canadian out there, especially for they who’ve been playing around with N95 8GB series. Yesterday, via its press release, Nokia has announced the availability of Nokia Maps and N-Gage for Rogers Wireless users. Frankly to said, both of companies also said that such agreement like this to be the first ever that had happened in North America. Well, where are those American big giant like AT&T, Verizon Wireless, and co’s anyway.
Nokia Maps in action on N95 handset
Nokia Maps
With Nokia Maps service, Rogers’ users will have a chance to enjoy some features or extra function that they couldn’t find it using the handset itself. This Nokia’s navigational-centric service, through the availability of GPS functionality and Location based service, will guide users to search and find such unfamiliar address in their home city or exploring a vacation destination. And while users get on their streets, Nokia Maps can help them finding their way easier, users can now plan their route street to street, city to city, or country to country.
Also, Nokia Maps can help those users to see objects with some different perspectives such as satellite images, street maps, or combinations of the two. Nokia has claimed that its Maps can be used to view 160 countries and millions of points of interest. For me, those hundreds of countries can be pretty much useless since most of N95 series users are not the one that used to live with that features. Well, just a guess.
Nokia N-Gage
If Nokia Maps seems to be overrated, then N-Gage is on the contrary. N-Gage to mobile gaming is just Friendster to social networking. Dudes, they’re the pioneer. With service like N-Gage, users is not just do gaming with themselves individually, yet they can also enhance their level by joining N-Gage Arena community. Inside this community, they can now challenge other users to accomplish a mission or even fighting to each other in combat-type mobile game. Amongst those available games, Nokia has mentioned these three titles including Reset Generation, Dirk Dagger and The Fallen Idol.
Fee information
Sadly to spoke, this press release doesn’t provide us with fee information and how to activate those services. But based on my experience, I think that the carrier itself, Rogers Wireless which will provide the detail on their official website. Once more, there are no explicit statement from both companies if these services will also be available for other devices besides N95 8GB.
