The NeuroSky’s MindSet
Someday on the future of mobile phone, human may learn to forget those traditional popular input methods such as d-pad, stylus or even keypad and start playing around with their own brain. NeuroSky, Inc., a California-based startup seems very confident about such hyperbolic sentence like that.
In CTIA 2008, which was closed yesterday, NeuroSky had showed off its real product called NeuroSky MindSet. A cool thing from this simple headset-type gadget is that it can do one thing that we can only see it on sci-fi movies or novels; to control an object or character in games by using human brain instead of keypads.
Hiroki Yomogida, a journalist at TechOn reported that NeuroSky had demonstrated the ability of its creation in a game which player is able to move a ladybug, character on that game, to a certain destination. And once again, the player only need his brain to move and control that ladybug on this game.
The NeuroSky’s ladybug brain-controlled mobile game
Besides this ladybug mobile game, NeuroSky has also offered its other two brain-minded apps. (1) An application to show the degree of brain’s relaxation on the screen of a mobile phone by using a visualizer and (2) an application to show the degree of brain’s tension in chronological order after a user solves about 10 arithmetical problems (addition, multiplication, etc) shown on the screen of a mobile phone.
To date, this newborn company has already sold its development kit to more than nine companies. Amongst them are home game console makers and game software developers including Nintendo and Sega. Since two of major gaming players are in the same wagon, wonder if we would witnessed a great revolution in gaming industry in this near future.
