How to Lower Your Cell Phone Bill and Free up Cash

Over here at CellPhones.org, one of our biggest expenses is, of course, our Cell Phone bill. We’ve been looking at our collective bills and we’ve come up with a few ways to lower the monthly bill.

1. Monitor Your Minutes

Look at your monthly bill and, if necessary, call your provider to find out exactly how many minutes you use in a month. Make sure you have the cheapest plan available for the amount of minutes you use, and try and use the cheapest monthly plan closest to that amount.

2. Skip the extras

If you don’t absolutely need them, don’t use high speed data plans, free ringtone gimmicks, and text messaging. So called Free Ringtones can add up to $200 a year on to your cell phone bill!

3. Don’t get the Free Phone

When you sign up for a free cell phone, you usually obligate yourself to a 2 year contract with your carrier on a specific plan. Give yourself some flexibility, and try buying an unlocked phone on eBay or elsewhere.

4. Try Prepaid

Many of the major carriers have prepaid plans – you pay for minutes in advance. This is great for cellphones that are rarely used or for emergency phones. It’s also great for budgeting, as you know upfront how much you’ve paid and how much you can expect to pay on your cell phone bill.

  2. Great list. It’s too easy to just accept the extras like unlimited text and whatever other add-ons they make it so easy to buy. I also like your last point. :) Prepaid could be a great option especially if you use under 200 minutes per month.

Oh, it's the only real way to stay informed. So go on, read for a bit. It won't hurt, we promise.

Reading hasn't been this cool since smoking was first introduced. The great difference is we're pretty sure you can't die from daily reading, so go on and overdose a bit.
