23 Sep 2008There is a cell phone cam waiting on every street corner, and it is a social guarantee that you will run into everyone you’ve ever wanted to avoid when you’re not looking your best. You’ve got What Not to Wear for your wardrobe, and thankfully, you’ve got me to offer a essential guide to being fashionable with your phone. I’m here to tell you what’s hot and what’s not.

So Hot. I know it may not be super sexy, but right now, nothing is hotter than doing the right thing. This means safety, people! When you’re in the car, a headset is the must have accessory. Go for ultra tiny, super shiny, and the latest and greatest in technological advancements, because what’s never hot is staticky phone calls that break up-despite it being occasionally convenient. Not Hot. Do not, under any circumstances, leave that headset in when you are out of the car. Honestly, are your hands so busy juggling other things that you can’t hold a phone? Not only is it rude, but it’s so not cool and definitely not cute. You may think that it looks very corporate and highlights your cheekbones-but you’re wrong. Take it out. And if you have one with a long cord that clips into your cell phone? If you use it that much, upgrade to Bluetooth. The wire is over.
Always Hot. Observing the crucial rules of etiquette. Don’t be the one left in the dark, ok? Be fashionable and fabulous without being disrespectful.
Not Hot. Look, I love shiny objects as much as the next person, but bedazzling your phone with glittery pink rhinestones, stickers, charms, or anything that jingles, tinkles, or twinkles. Pass it up. Cell phones are sexy enough on their own, and they run such a wide gamut that you can find one that suits your personality-even if you lean toward pink and shiny. Save the bling and the ice for anywhere but your gadgets. (Photo Credits: sunshinecity)
Hot and Protective. Sparkly stickies may be as over a
s pasties, but protecting your phone is always in and a great way to show your style. Neoprene or leather sleeves can give you a splash of color and protective style without looking like you spend every weekend walking the mall. And if you want glam looks without the protection, then try ColorWare, a service that will professionally “paint” your electronics in customized colors, from iPhones to iPods to Blackberries and more-and the colors are really pretty hot. Definitely Not Hot. Cell phone belt clips. First of all, unless you’re Kate Moss, you really don’t want any unnecessary bulk around the almighty waistline. Secondly, it is just so over. Don’t fall victim to it.
Red Hot. Definitely look for cute and clever ways to tote your cell, like Vera Bradley’s All in One Wristlet or Baggallini’s super organized Big Spender clutch-maybe even a Kate Spade case? Technology never asks you to sacrifice personality or style, so don’t hesitate to flaunt your favorite phone with really hot accessories. (Photo Credits: Jungle Jim)
