Cell phones have gone from simple communication device to something highly personalized. Now people look for the coolest wallpapers, fun icons, snazzy ringtones, and ways to gussy up their cell phones. Yet there are some fads that have come and gone. Here are just four of those horrid fads:
1. Bluetooth earpieces
Bluetooth earpieces have their place. When you are walking around your house making dinner and talking to grandma for instance. There are several great places for using a Bluetooth earpiece.
Then the fad of walking around all over with some blinking blue light on the side of your head became cool. This fad needs to end quickly. There is no reason to sit in the movie theater with your Bluetooth earpiece in, flashing, and irritating the people around you. Time to disconnect for a bit of time and allow the others a break from this fad as well.
2. Cell phone belt holster
The cell phone belt holster was a great invention. It was great back when phones were small and easily fit on your waist. That small phone fad died out a few years ago.
The fad in this article refers to the fad of having 20 phones on your belt. You remember these days. People had their personal phone, a work cell phone, a pager or three, an mp3 player nestled in there, and the cell phone for the kids. At some point these people became walking radiation factories from all their electronics strapped to their hips.
3. Entertainment played over an external speaker
Cell phones are quickly bridging that all-in-one wonder device that consumers are craving. Cell phones have done travel a great service by allowing users to pack on movies, music, books, comics, and games on one nice little device.
Where this fad gets to be too much is when people play music and movies with the cell phones external speaker. The person next to you on the bus does not want to hear your music. They could probably careless about what happens to Jim in that movie. Headphones are a fad that everyone can easily enjoy.
4. Cell phones on airplanes
This fad has yet to fully kick off, yet. Airlines are now working on ways to make it safe for people to fly and gum flap while on their cell phones. Let’s put this into some perspective.
You have to catch a 3am flight. You are exhausted and just want to sleep. You board your flight and prepare for the 8-hour nap your hoping to sneak in. Behind you a kid is kicking your seat. Just as you start to doze off, the teen next to you jumps on their phone and starts yakking. Not a big deal until you can’t sleep. Now this teen is just as irritating, if not more, than the kid kicking your seat behind you.
Fads are like phases. We hope the bad fads pass and the good fads take hold. Unfortunately, some of these fads have never left the terrible twos stage. Cell phones are great for what they do; they don’t need fads diluting that greatness.
