AT&T Snap Shot and Review:
- Exclusive iPhone Retailer
- Both Prepaid and Contract Phones
- Currently the Largest Cell Provider
Why You??™ll Love Them: Two words: Apple exclusivity. That??™s right. The one major wow factor for this brand is the fact that they??"and only they??"will have exclusive rights to the iPhone in its various generations. Which means, for better or worse, they??™ll always be on the map. They also have exclusive deals on a few other phones, but none as juicy as the iPhone. They also feature Rollover Minutes, a program in which minutes at the end of the month accumulate and add on to next month as opposed to disappearing. For those who don??™t like commitment, ATT??™s GoPhone is actually one of the better programs in the biz for prepay cell phones. They have decent rates on not just calls, but data and messaging too, all without a credit check or contract. Considering that their cornerstone is the iPhone, they also have great data bundles and the technology to support it, using EDGE software that creates larger and faster ???hotspots??? throughout major metropolitan areas. They also have an advantage program that offers discounts on phones the longer you stay with the company??"the rub on that? It??™s a tiered system based on how much you pay for your plan to start with.
Why You Won??™t: ATT really tries to get every last cent out of you. They have a reputation for adding ???free trials??? onto services and then charging for them later; many customers complain of surprise bills. However, their customer service seems very good about responding to and resolving claims??"so apparently a happy customer is one who complains. They also charge extra for unlimited intranetwork mobile-to-mobile calling, and have wildly expensive international charges, starting at $1.29 for a basic call to a plethora of countries, but reaching as high as $4.99 per minute to other countries. Granted, if you enroll in a program and pay a monthly fee, this goes down slightly ($1.29 gets knocked down to $.99) but it is still a very expensive program. Their cellular coverage is also very spotty in the western half of the country??"so much for more bars in more places.
